Almost done with my Stylized VFX mentorship with Marcus Bruzzese (Marcus) It was a great experience where he was able to really help nail in the importance of timing and color in an effect along with any shader issues I was having. Marcus was also really awesome about answering any questions I had and was really supportive when I hit some snags along the way. After this mentorship I feel confident in my ability to make more industry level effects. I'd recommend this mentorship to anyone who is looking to learn more about stylized effects and is looking for a mentor who is supportive and will give you an honest opinion on your work.

I had signed up for @Marcus Bruzzese 's February Stylized VFX mentorship with the hope of getting a bit of a trial-by-fire introduction to all that particle and shader wizardry that had stuck in my gaming memory over the years. To say I had prior experience with VFX would be a bit generous, so I had no idea what I was getting myself into - but I can say without a doubt that it blew away whatever I had hoped for. Marcus was extremely generous with his time, experience and enthusiasm, demystifying all that black-magic and making those first steps and stumbles far less daunting. Our sessions ended up feeling more like collaborative jam sessions which I always left inspired to push my projects that extra bit forward, and I'm excited to delve in more.

I was in the Stylized VFX mentorship program with Marcus Bruzzese. In the program, we went over workflow to create VFX with few textures and cost-efficient shaders. However, the best part was the one on one feedback that Marcus gave every week. By using discord he was able to look at my project in realtime and we could work together to create a great looking effect.
Due to the feedback being hands-on I feel like the knowledge I learned with Marcus is better retained. When I am learning from tutorials or reading on the forums I am looking for an answer to a question; however, in the mentorship, I learned the core ideas and knowledge to become a VFX artist. I would recommend working with Marcus to any VFX artist looking to make stylized art or wanting to add to their portfolio. Mentorships are a great way to learn directly from an industry professional.

Just wrapped up my internship with Marcus Bruzzese and through his guidance I was able to push my skills in VFX further beyond where I was before. Before the mentorship I felt I was stagnant in my growth in VFX and was struggling to figure out how to push my stylized work further. He went super in depth over my demo reel effects and was honest about his critiques which I really appreciated. From there the goals I had were to recreate/update two of my VFX with much higher fidelity and detail. Hyrun would go out of his way to help me out whenever I was stuck on something or had a question about how my work, even helping me figure out the overall direction for my effects when needed. What was great about his teaching style is that it felt very relaxed and chill, he was very patient with me when trying to figure things out and would even answer questions I had about the industry. After the mentorship I feel like I have a much better understanding of color, timing, and optimization as well as techniques involving materials and textures and with these skills i was able to push my work to a whole new level! Overall Marcus is an excellent mentor and I had a blast learning from him! I would highly recommend anyone wishing to push their stylized VFX further to take a mentorship with him!
